Love Poem 29
I always know when I’ve falling in love
because my decision making,
questionable at the best of times,
goes right out the window.
There is no
be cool
or play it cool
and there is no take it easy and let it happen.
I don’t force the issue
because love cannot be forced,
but I approach it with a
certain intensity
that isn’t everyone’s cup of tea.
Even the people in the past with whom
there might have been magic
were pushed away by my overzealous commitment
to love
and that single-mindedness pruned the bud before
it could bloom.
And that’s fine because
this isn’t about waxing and moaning about
lost love
or love that got away,
but rather an acknowledgement that
my guts and my heart
aren’t always working within the
confines of reality
and that’s because,
one way or another,
I am usually avoiding the
confines of reality
too.
