Love Poem 48

I heard someone ask another person

in the grip of unrequited love

why they loved someone who didn’t care about them, and

the answer was startlingly simple:

it’s my love to give, not yours to take away.

MY love, not YOURS.

That got me thinking about all the times

my heart

opened for someone else and

their heart

did not open for me.

While it doesn’t necessarily make anything easier to

accept or easier to digest,

the recognition and realization

that our love is always OUR LOVE

makes it easier to excrete those moments where the

fruits of life

are pushed back to us.

MY love.

YOUR love.

OUR love.

These are all different things

and when it comes to building love

that includes both our contributions, and it helps us to know

we are always ourselves before we are anything else.

Before we are

a couple,

or a threesome,

or a foursome,

or whatever the dynamic is,

we are always ourselves first.

Our love is

always our love

and belongs to us first and foremost,

so I think that is the best way, to

just love who we want to love.

To love with abandon,

to love without worry

about whether or not it will be returned.

Love is unique unto each person,

and the more we love freely and without restraint,

the better off we will be and the easier it gets to be

softer,

safer,

kinder,

gentler,

more forgiving,

and more accepting.

Let love reign, even if only in our own realm.
